Chapter 102: Rāma Performs Śrāddha for King Daśaratha
Text 2.102.49

स तत्र तेषां रुदतां महात्मनां भुवं च खं चानुनिनादयन्स्वनः।
गुहा गिरीणां च दिशश्च सन्ततं मृदङ्गघोषप्रतिमः प्रशुश्रुवे॥

sa tatra teṣāṁ rudatāṁ mahātmanāṁ
bhuvaṁ ca khaṁ cānuninādayan svanaḥ
guhā girīṇāṁ ca diśaś ca santataṁ
mṛdaṅga-ghoṣa-pratimaḥ praśuśruve

saḥ = the; tatra = there; teṣām = of those; rudatām = of the cries; mahā-ātmanām = great souls; bhuvam ca = through the earth; kham ca = sky; anuninādayan = resounding; svanaḥ = sound; guhā = the caves; girīṇām ca = of the hills; diśaḥ = in all directions; ca = and; santatam = continuously; mṛdaṅga-ghoṣa-pratimaḥ = resembling the sounds of a mṛdaṅga; praśuśruve = could be heard.

Resembling the sounds of a mṛdaṅga, the sound of the cries of those great souls there could be heard continuously resounding through the earth, sky, the caves of the hills and in all directions.

[1] amṛtaṁ vā āpas tasmād adbhir eva tāṁ tam abhiṣiñcanti (Śruti).

[2] kālo diṣṭo ’py anehāpi (Amara). daivaṁ diṣṭaṁ bhāgadheyam (Amara).

[3] anākule ’pi caikāgraḥ (Amara).

[4] sarve kaniṣṭha-prathamā anupūrva itare striyo ’gre.

[5] natyūho jala-raṅkuḥ syāt (Halāyudha).
