1 Rāmāyaṇa-bhūṣaṇa: ānupūrvyā yuktaṁ jyeṣṭhānukrameṇa saṅgatam. The kingdom is first to go to the eldest son of the king, then his younger brother, then his younger brother and so on. This is the sequence through which the kingdom has to be transferred. Since Rāma was the eldest son of King Daśaratha, it was appropriate by this consideration of sequence that He sit on the throne.
[The kingdom was] appropriate by sequence, that is, it was appropriate because of He was the eldest among the sons of the king.1 [The kingdom] was also appropriate for Rāma because it had come to Him who alone was capable of maintaining it.
