Chapter 104: Bharata Beseeches Rāma to Rule the Kingdom
Text 2.104.19
वयमस्य यथा लोके संख्याताः सौम्य साधुभिः।
भार्याः पुत्राश्च शिष्याश्च त्वमनुज्ञातुमर्हसि॥
vayam asya yathā loke saṅkhyātāḥ saumya sādhubhiḥ
bhāryāḥ putrāś ca śiṣyāś ca tvam anu jñātum arhasi
vayam = so are we; asya = in relation to King Daśaratha; yathā = just as; loke = in the world; saṅkhyātāḥ = are counted as subordinates; saumya = gentle Bharata; sādhubhiḥ = by the saintly; bhāryāḥ = wives; putrāḥ ca = sons; śiṣyāḥ = disciples; ca = and; tvam = You; anu = consequently; jñātum = understand that; arhasi = should.
Gentle Bharata, consequently You should understand that just as wives, sons and disciples are counted as subordinates in the world by the saintly, so are we in relation to King Daśaratha.
