एवमुक्त्वा तु विरते रामे वचनमर्थवत्।
ततो मन्दाकिनीतीरे रामं प्रकृतिवत्सलम्।
उवाच भरतश्चित्रं धार्मिको धार्मिकं वचः॥
evam uktvā tu virate rāme vacanam arthavat
tato mandākinī-tīre rāmaṁ prakṛti-vatsalam
uvāca bharataś citraṁ dhārmiko dhārmikaṁ vacaḥ
evam uktvā tu = spoken; virate = and stopped speaking; rāme = Rāma had; vacanam = words; arthavat = these meaningful; tataḥ = when; mandākinī-tīre = on the bank of Mandākinī; rāmam = to Rāma; prakṛti-vatsalam = who was affectionate to His subjects; uvāca = spoke [the following]; bharataḥ = Bharata; citram = wonderful; dhārmikaḥ = dhārmika; dhārmikam = in accordance with dharma; vacaḥ = words.
When Rāma had spoken these meaningful words and stopped speaking on the bank of Mandākinī, dhārmika Bharata spoke [the following] wonderful words in accordance with dharma to Rāma who was affectionate to His subjects.
In this chapter, Bharata appropriately responds to Rāmacandra in an even more praiseworthy manner.
