Canto 2 -
Ayodhyā-kāṇḍa
Chapter 106: Bharata Persists in His Request
Text 2.106.3

संमतश्चासि वृद्धानां तांश्च पृच्छसि संशयान्॥

sammataś cāsi vṛddhānāṁ tāṁś ca pṛcchasi saṁśayān

sammataḥ ca asi = You are revered; vṛddhānām = by elders learned in the three Vedas; tān = them; ca = and; pṛcchasi = yet You ask; saṁśayān = to clarify doubts.

“You are revered by elders learned in the three Vedas and yet You ask them to clarify doubts.

Those learned in the three Vedas agreed that He is omniscient.1

1 It was noted in the previous verse that Rāmacandra is not pained by sorrow or delighted by happiness. Moreover those learned in the three Vedas accepted Rāma as omniscient. These are sufficient to establish that He does not need to learn anything about Vedic dharma. The natural conclusion is that He asked the sages to clarify doubts solely to teach the world the necessity of consulting elders learned in Vedic knowledge and wisdom.
