Chapter 106: Bharata Persists in His Request
Text 2.106.13
अन्तकाले हि भूतानि मुह्यन्तीति पुरा श्रुतिः।
राज्ञैवं कुर्वता लोके प्रत्यक्षा सा श्रुतिः कृता॥
anta-kāle hi bhūtāni muhyantīti purā śrutiḥ
rājñaivaṁ kurvatā loke pratyakṣā sā śrutiḥ kṛtā
anta-kāle hi = at the time of their death; bhūtāni = living creatures; muhyanti = become confused; iti purā śrutiḥ = there is an ancient saying that; rājñā = the king; evam = in this manner; kurvatā = by behaving; loke = in public; pratyakṣā = come true; sā = that; śrutiḥ = saying; kṛtā = has made.
There is an ancient saying that living creatures become confused at the time of their death. By behaving in this manner in public, the king has made that saying come true.
“Living creatures become confused at the time of their death” indicates that their intelligence becomes perverted then.
