Canto 2 -
Ayodhyā-kāṇḍa
Chapter 106: Bharata Persists in His Request
Text 2.106.21

अथ क्लेशजमेव त्वं धर्मं चरितुमिच्छसि।
धर्मेण चतुरो वर्णान्पालयन्क्लेशमाप्नुहि।।

atha kleśajam eva tvaṁ dharmaṁ caritum icchasi
dharmeṇa caturo varṇān pālayan kleśam āpnuhi

atha kleśajam eva = that is difficult; tvam = You; dharmam = dharma; caritum = to carry out; icchasi = want; dharmeṇa = through dharma; caturaḥ = the four; varṇān = varṇas; pālayan = of maintaining; kleśam = the difficulty; āpnuhi = accept.

You want to carry out dharma that is difficult. Accept the difficulty of maintaining the four varṇas through dharma.

Managing a kingdom is filled with the difficulty of maintaining the four vaṇas, establishing dharma [in the kingdom] and so on.
