Ayodhyā-kāṇḍa
Chapter 109: Rāma Refutes Jābāli
Text 2.109.13

सत्यमेवेश्वरो लोके सत्यं पद्मा श्रिता सदा।
सत्यमूलानि सर्वाणि सत्यान्नास्ति परं पदम्॥

satyam eveśvaro loke satyaṁ padmā śritā sadā
satya-mūlāni sarvāṇi satyān nāsti paraṁ padam

satyam eva = truthfulness; īśvaraḥ = is the controller; loke = in the world; satyam = of truthfulness; padmā = the goddess of fortune; śritā = takes shelter; sadā = always; satya-mūlāni = rooted on truthfulness; sarvāṇi = everything is; satyāt = to truthfulness; na asti = there is no; param = superior; padam = shelter.

Truthfulness is the controller in the world. The goddess of fortune always takes shelter of truthfulness. Everything is rooted on truthfulness.1 There is no shelter superior to truthfulness.

1 All activities of dharma are rooted in truthfulness. Take away truthfulness and the entire structure of dharma collapses.
