Chapter 109: Rāma Refutes Jābāli
Text 2.109.18

असत्यसन्धस्य सतश्चलस्यास्थिरचेतसः।
नैव देवा न पितरः प्रतीच्छन्तीति नः श्रुतम्॥

asatya-sandhasya sataś calasyāsthira-cetasaḥ
naiva devā na pitaraḥ pratīcchantīti naḥ śrutam

asatya-sandhasya sataḥ = by one who is not truthful to his promises; calasya = who is of unsteady nature; asthira-cetasaḥ = and whose mind is flickering; na eva = neither; devāḥ = the devas; na = nor; pitaraḥ = the pious forefathers; pratīcchanti = desire to accept oblations offered; iti = that; naḥ śrutam = we have heard.

We have heard that neither the devas nor the pious forefathers desire to accept oblations offered by one who is not truthful to his promises, who is of unsteady nature and whose mind is flickering.

GLOSS. [If] their worshippers are unsteady, the devas and pious forefathers also become unsteady in mind and do not accept the sacrificial oblations and other items offered to them.
