Canto 2 -
Ayodhyā-kāṇḍa
Chapter 109: Rāma Refutes Jābāli
Text 2.109.20

क्षात्र धर्ममहं त्यक्ष्ये ह्यधर्मं धर्मसंहितम्।
क्षुद्रैर्नृशंसैर्लुब्धैश्च सेवितं पापकर्मभिः॥

kṣātra-dharmam ahaṁ tyakṣye hy adharmaṁ dharma-saṁhitam
kṣudrair nṛśaṁsair lubdhaiś ca sevitaṁ pāpa-karmabhiḥ

kṣātra-dharmam = the dharma of the kṣatriyas; aham = I; tyakṣye hi = will give up; adharmam = for it is adharma; dharma-saṁhitam = tinged with dharma; kṣudraiḥ = by insignificant; nṛśaṁsaiḥ = cruel; lubdhaiḥ = greedy; ca = and; sevitam = accepted; pāpa-karmabhiḥ = people of sinful activities.

I will give up the dharma of the kṣatriyas for it is adharma tinged with dharma and accepted by insignificant, cruel and greedy people of sinful activities.

Rāma now states that He would not abandon [the dharma of upholding] truthfulness as practiced by His [saintly] predecessors to accept the kingdom as requested by Jābāli.1

1 And as originally requested by Bharata.
