Chapter 109: Rāma Refutes Jābāli
Text 2.109.33

निन्दाम्यहं कर्म पितुः कृतं तद्यस्त्वामगृह्णाद्विषमस्थबुद्धिम्।
बुद्ध्यानयैवंविधया चरन्तं सुनास्तिकं धर्मपथादपेतम्॥

nindāmy ahaṁ karma pituḥ kṛtaṁ tad
yas tvām agṛhṇād viṣamastha-buddhim
buddhyānayaivaṁ-vidhayā carantaṁ
sunāstikaṁ dharma-pathād apetam

nindāmi = criticize; aham = I; karma = the activity; pituḥ = by My father; kṛtam = performed; tat = the; yaḥ = who; tvām = You; agṛhṇāt = in accepting; viṣamastha-buddhim = your intelligence is perverted; buddhyā = a conception; anayā evam-vidhayā = with such; carantam = who wander about; sunāstikam = [for] you terribly subscribe to the ideology that the soul does not exist; dharma-pathāt = from the path of Vedic dharma; apetam = you have fallen away.

I criticize the activity performed by My father who accepted you who wander about with such a conception. Your intelligence is perverted [for] you terribly subscribe to the ideology that the soul does not exist. You have fallen away from the path of Vedic dharma.

Rāma stated that Jābāli’s intelligence was perverted, that is, it was immersed in a non-Vedic ideology. He wandered about with such a conception, that is, he was wandering about instructing others the ideas of Cārvāka. Sunāstikam indicates that he terribly subscribed to the ideology that the soul does not exist, that is, he positioned himself as a Vedic follower while propagating the ideology of Cārvāka. Rāma criticized [His father’s activity of selecting Jābāli], that is, He wanted to expel Jābāli from all Vedic performances.
