Chapter 110: Vasiṣṭha Requests Rāma to Accept the Throne
Text 2.110.22

सपत्न्या तु गरस्तस्यै दत्तो गर्भजिघांसया।
गरेण सह तेनैव जातः स सगरोऽभवत्॥

sapatnyā tu garas tasyai datto garbha-jighāṁsayā
gareṇa saha tenaiva jātaḥ sa sagaro ’bhavat

sapatnyā tu = her co-wife; garaḥ = poison; tasyai = her; dattaḥ = had given; garbha-jighāṁsayā = to kill the child in the womb; gareṇa = poison (gara); saha = with (sa); tena = that; eva jātaḥ = was born; saḥ = because he; sagaraḥ = Sagara; abhavat = he was [called].

“Her co-wife had given her poison to kill the child in the womb. Because he was born with (sa) that poison (gara), he was [called] Sagara.
