Chapter 113: Bharata Returns to Ayodhyā
Text 2.113.10
पितुः प्रतिज्ञां तामेव पालयिष्यामि तत्त्वतः।
चतुर्दश हि वर्षाणि या प्रतिज्ञा पितुर्मम॥
pituḥ pratijñāṁ tām eva pālayiṣyāmi tattvataḥ
caturdaśa hi varṣāṇi yā pratijñā pitur mama
pituḥ = of My father; pratijñām = promise; tām eva = the; pālayiṣyāmi = I will carry out; tattvataḥ = factually; caturdaśa hi = for fourteen; varṣāṇi = years; yā = the; pratijñā = promise [to Kaikeyī-devī that I reside in the forest]; pituḥ = of father; mama = My.
I will factually carry out the promise of My father—the promise of My father [to Kaikeyī-devī that I reside in the forest] for fourteen years.1
1 Parama-prītaḥ in the previous verse indicates that Rāma was extremely happy to say this. He didn’t half-heartedly say this.
