Chapter 114: Ayodhyā’s loss of Splendor

विध्वस्तकवचां रुग्णगजवाजिरथध्वजाम्।
हतप्रवीरामापन्नां चमूमिव महाहवे॥
vidhvasta-kavacāṁ rugṇa-gaja-vāji-ratha-dhvajām
hata-pravīrām āpannāṁ camūm iva mahāhave
vidhvasta-kavacām = whose soldiers’ armors were destroyed; rugṇa-gaja-vāji-ratha-dhvajām = whose elephants, horses, chariots and flags were broken; hata-pravīrām = whose leading heroes were destroyed; āpannām = and which had fallen into a state of crisis; camūm = an army; iva = Ayodhyā resembled; mahā-āhave = in a great battle.
Ayodhyā resembled an army whose soldiers’ armors were destroyed, whose elephants, horses, chariots and flags were broken, whose leading heroes were destroyed and which had fallen into a state of crisis in a great battle.
