Chapter 114: Ayodhyā’s loss of Splendor
Text 2.114.19

पुरुषस्याप्रहृष्टस्य प्रतिषिद्धानुलेपनाम्।
संतप्तामिव शोकेन गात्रयष्टिमभूषणाम्॥

puruṣasyāprahṛṣṭasya pratiṣiddhānulepanām
santaptām iva śokena gātra-yaṣṭim abhūṣaṇām

puruṣasya = by her husband; aprahṛṣṭasya = unhappy; pratiṣiddha-anulepanām = who had been forbidden to perfume herself; santaptām = and burnt; iva = Ayodhyā resembled; śokena = in distress; gātra-yaṣṭim = a slender-bodied woman; abhūṣaṇām = and who therefore didn’t decorate herself.

Ayodhyā resembled a slender-bodied woman who had been forbidden to perfume herself by her unhappy husband and who therefore didn’t decorate herself and burnt in distress.
