Chapter 114: Ayodhyā’s loss of Splendor
Text 2.114.27
सह नूनं मम भ्रात्रा पुरस्यास्य द्युतिर्गता।
न हि राजत्ययोध्येयं सासारेवार्जुनी क्षपा॥
saha nūnaṁ mama bhrātrā purasyāsya dyutir gatā
na hi rājaty ayodhyeyaṁ sāsārevārjunī kṣapā
saha = with; nūnam = certainly; mama = My; bhrātrā = brother; purasya = city; asya = of this; dyutiḥ = the splendor; gatā = has departed; na hi = does not; rājati = shine; ayodhyā iyam = this city of Ayodhyā; sāsārā = with heavy rain 2; iva = like; arjunī = a full-moon; kṣapā = night.
Certainly the splendor of this city has departed with My brother. This city of Ayodhyā does not shine like a full-moon night with heavy rain.
NOTE. These are clear symptoms of extreme affection for Rāma.
In his purport to Bhagavad-gītā 10.9, Prabhupāda describes the symptoms of one fully absorbed in love of God: “then he cannot live even for a moment without being in contact with the Supreme Lord, just as a fish cannot live without water. In such a state, the devotee actually attains the transcendental qualities in contact with the Supreme Lord.”
