Chapter 115: Bharata Goes to Nandigrāma
Text 2.115.15

भरतः शिरसा कृत्वा संन्यासं पादुके ततः।
अब्रवीद्दुःखसंतप्तः सर्वं प्रकृतिमण्डलम्॥

bharataḥ śirasā kṛtvā sannyāsaṁ pāduke tataḥ
abravīd duḥkha-santaptaḥ sarvaṁ prakṛti-maṇḍalam

bharataḥ = Bharata; śirasā = on His head; kṛtvā = placed; sannyāsam = that had been deposited with Him; pāduke = these sandals; tataḥ = then; abravīt = He spoke as follows; duḥkha-santaptaḥ = anguished in sorrow; sarvam = to all of; prakṛti-maṇḍalam = His subjects.

Bharata then placed these sandals that had been deposited with Him on His head. Anguished in sorrow, He spoke to all of His subjects as follows.

GLOSS. Rāma had deposited the sandals with Bharata until He returned to Ayodhyā.
