Canto 2 -
Ayodhyā-kāṇḍa
Chapter 116: The Sages Depart from Citrakūṭa
Text 2.116.13
त्वं यदाप्रभृति ह्यस्मिन्नाश्रमे तात वर्तसे।
तदाप्रभृति रक्षांसि विप्रकुर्वन्ति तापसान्॥
tvaṁ yadā-prabhṛti hy asminn āśrame tāta vartase
tadā-prabhṛti rakṣāṁsi viprakurvanti tāpasān
tvam = You; yadā-prabhṛti hi = as long; asmin = in this; āśrame = āśrama; tāta = dear child; vartase = are; tadā-prabhṛti = as; rakṣāṁsi = the rākṣasas; viprakurvanti = will insult; tāpasān = the ascetics.
As long as You are in this āśrama, dear child, the rākṣasas will insult the ascetics.
NOTE. The demoniac are characteristically hostile to the Supreme Personality of Godhead as noted by the Lord Himself in Bhagavad-gītā (16.18):
ahaṅkāraṁ balaṁ darpaṁ kāmaṁ krodhaṁ ca saṁśritāḥ
mām ātma-para-deheṣu pradviṣanto ’bhyasūyakāḥ
“Bewildered by false ego, strength, pride, lust and anger, the demons become envious of the Supreme Personality of Godhead, who is situated in their own bodies and in the bodies of others, and blaspheme against the real religion.”
