Chapter 116: The Sages Depart from Citrakūṭa
Text 2.116.23
इत्युक्तवन्तं रामस्तं राजपुत्रस्तपस्विनम्।
न शशाकोत्तरैर्वाक्यैरवरोद्धुं समुत्सुकः॥
ity uktavantaṁ rāmas taṁ rāja-putras tapasvinam
na śaśākottarair vākyair avaroddhuṁ samutsukaḥ
iti uktavantam = spoke thus; rāmaḥ = Rāma; tam = when that; rāja-putraḥ = Prince; tapasvinam = ascetic; na śaśāka = was unable; uttaraiḥ vākyaiḥ = with His words of response; avaroddhum = to stop him; samutsukaḥ = [despite] His great eagerness.
When that ascetic spoke thus, Prince Rāma was unable to stop him with His words of response [despite] His great eagerness.1
1 Rāma was greatly eager to speak to that ascetic and stop him, but He was unable to convince them.
