Chapter 117: Anasūyā Instructs Sītā About Strī-dharma
Text 2.117.21
त्यक्त्वा ज्ञातिजनं सीते मानमृद्धिं च भामिनि।
अवरुद्धं वने रामं दिष्ट्या त्वमनुगच्छसि॥
tyaktvā jñāti-janaṁ sīte mānam ṛddhiṁ ca bhāmini
avaruddhaṁ vane rāmaṁ diṣṭyā tvam anugacchasi
tyaktvā = given up; jñāti-janam = your friends; sīte = Sītā; mānam = false ego; ṛddhim = prosperity; ca = and; bhāmini = beautiful; avaruddham = who is confined; vane = in the forest; rāmam = Rāma; diṣṭyā = by good fortune; tvam = you have; anugacchasi = to follow.
“Beautiful Sītā, by good fortune you have given up your friends, false ego and prosperity to follow Rāma who is confined in the forest.
Rāma was confined in the forest for He was ordered by His father to stay in the forest for fourteen years.
