Canto 2 -
Ayodhyā-kāṇḍa
Chapter 118: Conversation Between Sītā and Anasūyā
Text 2.118.9

नवीकृतं च तत्सर्वं वाक्यैस्ते धर्मचारिणि।
पतिशुश्रूषणान्नार्यास्तपो नान्यद्विधीयते॥

navī-kṛtaṁ ca tat sarvaṁ vākyais te dharmacāriṇi
pati-śuśrūṣaṇān nāryās tapo nānyad vidhīyate

navī-kṛtam ca = you have freshly reminded me; tat sarvam = of all that; vākyaiḥ te = through your words; dharmacāriṇi = O follower of dharma; pati-śuśrūṣaṇāt = other than menial service to their husbands; nāryāḥ = for women; tapaḥ = austerity; na = don’t; anyat = any; vidhīyate = the scriptures prescribe.

O follower of dharma, you have freshly reminded me of all that through your words. The scriptures don’t prescribe any austerity for women other than menial service to their husbands.1

1 The second line literally means, “No austerity other than menial service to their husbands has been prescribed for women [in the scriptures].”
