पतिसंयोगसुलभं वयो दृष्ट्वा तु मे पिता।
चिन्तामभ्यगमद्दीनो वित्तनाशादिवाधनः।।
pati-saṁyoga-sulabhaṁ vayo dṛṣṭvā tu me pitā
cintām abhyagamad dīno vitta-nāśād ivādhanaḥ
pati-saṁyoga-sulabham = that could be easily passed through [within the boundaries of Vedic dharma] by being united with a [suitable] husband; vayaḥ = I had attained an age; dṛṣṭvā tu = saw that; me = when my; pitā = father; cintām abhyagamat = he became morose; dīnaḥ = and worried; vitta-nāśāt = who had lost his wealth; iva = like; adhanaḥ = a poor man.
When my father saw that I had attained an age that could be easily passed through [within the boundaries of Vedic dharma] by being united with a [suitable] husband, he became morose and worried like a poor man who had lost his wealth.
1 That is, it is not easily passed through within the boundaries of Vedic dharma without being united with a suitable husband.
Pati-saṁyoga-sulabham refers to an age that could be easily [passed through within the boundaries of Vedic dharma] upon being united with a [suitable] husband; it is not easily [passed through within the boundaries of Vedic dharma] otherwise.1 It is the age of youth, when it is impossible to stay [within the boundaries of Vedic dharma] without being united with a [suitable] husband.
