Canto 2 -
Ayodhyā-kāṇḍa
Chapter 119: Rāma Departs to Daṇḍakāraṇya
Text 2.119.6

अल्पपर्णा हि तरवो घनीभूताः समन्ततः।
विप्रकृष्टेऽपि देशेऽस्मिन्न प्रकाशन्ति वै दिशः॥६॥

alpa-parṇā hi taravo ghanī-bhūtāḥ samantataḥ
viprakṛṣṭe ’pi deśe ’smin na prakāśanti vai diśaḥ

alpa-parṇāḥ = with very few leaves; hi = because; taravaḥ = the trees; ghanī-bhūtāḥ = appear to have grown dense; samantataḥ =   in all directions; viprakṛṣṭe api = even in far-off; deśe asmin = a region; na = not; prakāśanti vai = are bright; diśaḥ = those  regions.

Even in a far-off region the trees with very few leaves appear to have grown dense in all directions because those regions are not bright.

GLOSS. There were trees such as flax, with narrow leaves.
