तस्यैवं ब्रुवतो धृष्टं विराधस्य दुरात्मनः।
श्रुत्वा सगर्वितं वाक्यं संभ्रान्ता जनकात्मजा।
सीता प्रावेपतोद्वेगात्प्रवाते कदली यथा॥
tasyaivaṁ bruvato dhṛṣṭaṁ virādhasya durātmanaḥ
śrutvā sagarvitaṁ vākyaṁ sambhrāntā janakātmajā
sītā prāvepatodvegāt pravāte kadalī yathā
tasya = who; evam = thus; bruvataḥ = spoke; dhṛṣṭam = the audacious; virādhasya = Virādha; durātmanaḥ = of the evil soul; śrutvā = upon hearing; sagarvitam = and proud; vākyam = words; sambhrāntā = became perplexed and; janaka-ātmajā = Janaka’s daughter; sītā = Sītā-devī; prāvepata = trembled; udvegāt = in fear; pravāte = [that trembles] when agitated by the wind; kadalī = the plantain tree; yathā = like.
Upon hearing the audacious and proud words of the evil soul Virādha who spoke thus, Janaka’s daughter Sītā-devī became perplexed and trembled in fear like the plantain tree [that trembles] when agitated by the wind.
