Chapter 3: Virādha Carries Rāma and Lakṣmaṇa
Text 3.3.8

उत्सृज्य प्रमदामेनामनपेक्षौ यथागतम्।
त्वरमाणौ पलायेथां न वां जीवितमाददे॥

utsṛjya pramadām enām anapekṣau yathāgatam
tvaramāṇau palāyethāṁ na vāṁ jīvitam ādade

utsṛjya = give up and; pramadām = enchanting lady; enām = this; anapekṣau = with indifference; yathā-āgatam = on the path that You took [to come here]; tvaramāṇau = quickly; palāyethām = run away; na = not; vām = Your; jīvitam = life; ādade = I will take away.

Give up this enchanting lady and quickly run away with indifference on the path that You took [to come here]. I will not take away Your life.”

Virādha implied, “If You are not indifferent, Your death is certain. [Run away] quickly! If You walk away slowly, I may change my mind.1 I won’t take away Your life because I will get this excellent jewellike beautiful woman.”

1 Rāmāyaṇa-bhūṣaṇa: tvaramāṇau manda-gamane me manaś caled iti bhāvaḥ.
