Chapter 3: Virādha Carries Rāma and Lakṣmaṇa
Text 3.3.20
तद्रामविशिखच्छिन्नं शूलं तस्य कराद्भुवि।।
पपाताशनिना छिन्नं मेरोरिव शिलातलम्॥
tad rāma-viśikha-cchinnaṁ śūlaṁ tasya karād bhuvi
papātāśaninā chinnaṁ meror iva śilā-talam
tat = it; rāma-viśikha-chinnam = was cut by Rāma’s arrows; śūlam = spear; tasya = Virādha’s; karāt = from his hand; bhuvi = to the ground; papāta = [then] fell; aśaninā = by the thunderbolt; chinnam = was cut; meroḥ = Meru’s; iva = just as; śilā-talam = rocky surface.
Virādha’s spear was cut by Rāma’s arrows just as Meru’s rocky surface was cut by the thunderbolt. It [then] fell from his hand to the ground.
