Canto 3 -
Araṇya-kāṇḍa
Chapter 8: Śrī Rāma Departs From Sutīkṣṇa’s Āśrama
Text 3.8.10

तौ संस्पृशन्तौ चरणावुत्थाप्य मुनिपुङ्गवः।
गाढमालिङ्ग्य सस्नेहमिदं वचनमब्रवीत्॥

tau saṁspṛśantau caraṇāv utthāpya muni-puṅgavaḥ
gāḍham āliṅgya sasneham idaṁ vacanam abravīt

tau = Them; saṁspṛśantau = when Rāma and Lakṣmaṇa touched; caraṇau = his feet; utthāpya = gently raised up; muni-puṅgavaḥ = the excellent sage; gāḍham = tightly; āliṅgya = embraced Them; sasneham = and affectionately; idam = the following; vacanam = words; abravīt = spoke.

When Rāma and Lakṣmaṇa touched his feet, the excellent sage gently raised Them up, tightly embraced Them and affectionately spoke the following words.1

1 It is clear that only Rāma and Lakṣmaṇa touched his feet. Mother Sītā didn’t, considering the civilized principles of gender separation.
