पश्याश्रमपदं रम्यं दण्डकारण्यवासिनाम्।
एषां तपस्विनां वीर तपसा भावितात्मनाम्॥
सप्राज्यफलमूलानि पुष्पितानि वनानि च।
प्रशस्तमृगयूथानि शान्तपक्षिगणानि च॥
फुल्लपङ्कजषण्डानि प्रसन्नसलिलानि च।
कारण्डवविकीर्णानि तटाकानि सरांसि च।।
paśyāśrama-padaṁ ramyaṁ daṇḍakāraṇya-vāsinām
eṣāṁ tapasvināṁ vīra tapasā bhāvitātmanām
saprājya-phala-mūlāni puṣpitāni vanāni ca
praśasta-mṛga-yūthāni śānta-pakṣi-gaṇāni ca
phulla-paṅkaja-ṣaṇḍāni prasanna-salilāni ca
kāraṇḍava-vikīrṇāni taṭākāni sarāṁsi ca
paśya = see; āśrama-padam = āśramas; ramyam = the pleasant; daṇḍakāraṇya-vāsinām = residing in Daṇḍakāraṇya; eṣām = of these; tapasvinām = ascetics; vīra = O hero; tapasā = through austerities; bhāvita-ātmanām = meditating on the Supreme Soul; saprājya-phala-mūlāni puṣpitāni = flowering; vanāni = forests; ca = with plenty of fruits and roots 3; praśasta-mṛga-yūthāni = excellent herds of deer; śānta-pakṣi-gaṇāni ca = peaceful groups of birds; phulla-paṅkaja-ṣaṇḍāni = with bunches of blossoming lotuses; prasanna-salilāni = clear water bodies; ca = as well as; kāraṇḍava-vikīrṇāni = crowded with water fowls 4; taṭākāni = ponds; sarāṁsi = lakes; ca = and.
O hero, see the pleasant āśramas of these ascetics residing in Daṇḍakāraṇya meditating on the Supreme Soul through austerities, flowering forests with plenty of fruits and roots, excellent herds of deer, peaceful groups of birds, clear water bodies with bunches of blossoming lotuses as well as ponds and lakes crowded with water fowls.
1 When the Supreme Personality of Godhead glances at anyone with happiness, that is perfection for the fortunate recipients of His glance. The Lord would glance at whatever the sage requests Him to see and thus they would become perfect as recipients of His compassion.
In this verse the sage describes the items found in the forest for austerity (tapovana); he does so to make them successful.1
