Chapter 9: Sītā Requests Rāma to Give up His Weapons
Text 3.9.20
यत्र गच्छत्युपादातुं मूलानि च फलानि च।
न विना याति तं खङ्गं न्यासरक्षणतत्परः॥
yatra gacchaty upādātuṁ mūlāni ca phalāni ca
na vinā yāti taṁ khaḍgaṁ nyāsa-rakṣaṇa-tat-paraḥ
yatra = whenever; gacchati = he would go; upādātum = to get; mūlāni ca = roots; phalāni = fruits; ca = and; na = not; vinā = without; yāti = he would go; tam = that; khaḍgam = sword; nyāsa-rakṣaṇa-tat-paraḥ = fixed on protecting that which was deposited with him.
Whenever he would go to get roots and fruits, fixed on protecting that which was deposited with him, he would not go without that sword.1
