Chapter 11: Rāma Goes to Agastya’s Āśrama
Text 3.11.7

प्रसन्नसलिले रम्ये तस्मिन्सरसि शुश्रुवे।
गीतवादित्रनिर्घोषो न तु कश्चन दृश्यते॥

prasanna-salile ramye tasmin sarasi śuśruve
gīta-vāditra-nirghoṣo na tu kaścana dṛśyate

prasanna-salile = of clear water; ramye = pleasant; tasmin = in that; sarasi = lake; śuśruve = was heard; gīta-vāditra-nirghosaḥ = the sound of singing and musical instruments; na tu = but; kaścana = no singer or musician; dṛśyate = was seen [by Rāma and others].

In that pleasant lake of clear water, the sound of singing and musical instruments was heard but no singer or musician was seen [by Rāma and others].

Singing refers to regulated compositions on the basis of musical tones: ṣa, , ga, ma, pa, dha and ni. Musical instruments are of four types: stringed, brass, wind and percussion 4.
