Chapter 11: Rāma Goes to Agastya’s Āśrama
Text 3.11.22
एवं कथयमानः स ददर्शाश्रममण्डलम्।
कुशचीरपरिक्षिप्तं ब्राह्म्या लक्ष्म्या समावृतम्॥
evaṁ kathayamānaḥ sa dadarśāśrama-maṇḍalam
kuśa-cīra-parikṣiptaṁ brāhmyā lakṣmyā samāvṛtam
evam = so; kathayamānaḥ = while uttering; saḥ1 = Rāghava; dadarśa = saw; āśrama-maṇḍalam = the āśramas; kuśa-cīra-parikṣiptam = they were strewn with kuśa grass and pieces of cloth; brāhmyā = with brahminical; lakṣmyā = prosperity; samāvṛtam = and were entirely filled.
While uttering so, Rāghava saw the āśramas. They were strewn with kuśa grass and pieces of cloth and were entirely filled with brahminical prosperity.1
The āśramas were filled with brahminical prosperity, that is, they were filled with brāhmaṇas.
