पिप्पलीनां च पक्वानां वनादस्मादुपागतः।
गन्धोऽयं पवनोत्क्षिप्तः सहसा कटुकोदयः॥
pippalīnāṁ ca pakvānāṁ vanād asmād upāgataḥ
gandho ’yaṁ pavanotkṣiptaḥ sahasā kaṭukodayaḥ
pippalīnām = berries; ca pakvānām = of ripe; vanāt = forest; asmāt = from this; upāgataḥ = we have come across; gandhaḥ = smell; ayam = a; pavana-utkṣiptaḥ = thrown about in the air; sahasā = suddenly; kaṭuka-udayaḥ = pungent.
We have suddenly come across a pungent smell of ripe berries thrown about in the air from this forest.
Rāma then points out that an uncommon characteristic as stated [by Sutīkṣṇa] is seen here.
