Canto 3 -
Araṇya-kāṇḍa
Chapter 11: Rāma Goes to Agastya’s Āśrama
Text 3.11.85
यदाप्रभृति चाक्रान्ता दिगियं पुण्यकर्मणा।
तदाप्रभृति निर्वैराः प्रशान्ता रजनीचराः॥
yadā-prabhṛti cākrāntā dig iyaṁ puṇya-karmaṇā
tadā-prabhṛti nirvairāḥ praśāntā rajanīcarāḥ
yadā-prabhṛti ca = ever since; ākrāntā = took over; dik = region; iyam = this; puṇya-karmaṇā = Agastya, whose activities are pious; tadā-prabhṛti nirvairāḥ = could not provoke hostility; praśāntāḥ = and behaved peacefully; rajanīcarāḥ = the rākṣasas.
Ever since Agastya, whose activities are pious, took over this region, the rākṣasas could not provoke hostility and behaved peacefully.
The disturbances caused by Virādha and the other rākṣasas were mild ever since Agastya set up his āśrama. [In fact,] these rākṣasas ate the flesh of sages only when the sages had become impure.
