Chapter 11: Rāma Goes to Agastya’s Āśrama
Text 3.11.87
मार्गं निरोद्धुं निरतो भास्करस्याचलोत्तमः।
निदेशं पालयन्यस्य विन्ध्यः शैलो न वर्धते॥
mārgaṁ niroddhuṁ nirato bhāskarasyācalottamaḥ
nideśaṁ pālayan yasya vindhyaḥ śailo na vardhate
mārgam = the path; niroddhum = to stop; nirataḥ = was prepared; bhāskarasya = of the sun; acala-uttamaḥ = the best of the immovables; nideśam = instruction; pālayan = [but] following; yasya = Agastya’s; vindhyaḥ = Vindhya; śailaḥ = Mount; na vardhate = it does not grow [anymore].
Mount Vindhyā, the best of the immovables, was prepared to stop the path of the sun. [But] following Agastya’s instruction, it does not grow [anymore].
