Chapter 12: Agastya Requests Rāma to Protect the Sages
Text 3.12.43

स दृष्ट्वा राघवं श्रीमानगस्त्यः संयताञ्जलिम्।
प्रतिपूज्य यथान्यायमिदं वचनमब्रवीत्॥

sa dṛṣṭvā rāghavaṁ śrīmān agastyaḥ saṁyatāñjalim
pratipūjya yathā-nyāyam idaṁ vacanam abravīt

saḥ = the; dṛṣṭvā = upon noticing Him; rāghavam = Rāghava; śrīmān = prosperous; agastyaḥ = Agastya; saṁyata-añjalim = restrained Himself and joined His palms in supplication; pratipūjya = reciprocated by honoring Him; yathā-nyāyam = as appropriate; idam = the following; vacanam = words; abravīt = and spoke.

Rāghava restrained Himself and joined His palms in supplication.1 Upon noticing Him, the prosperous Agastya reciprocated by honoring Him as appropriate and spoke the following words. 

1 In the presence of one’s superiors, one should restrain his body, words and mind. Lord Rāma demonstrates this in His dealing with Śrī Agastya.
