Canto 3 -
Araṇya-kāṇḍa
Chapter 12: Agastya Requests Rāma to Protect the Sages
Text 3.12.47

सुखोपविष्टे रामे तु सहसीते सलक्ष्मणे।
स तेन ऋषिसङ्घेन अगस्त्यो वाक्यमब्रवीत्॥

sukhopaviṣṭe rāme tu saha-sīte salakṣmaṇe
sa tena ṛṣi-saṅghena agastyo vākyam abravīt

sukha-upaviṣṭe = sat down comfortably; rāme tu = when Rāma; saha-sīte = Sītā; sa-lakṣmaṇe = and Lakṣmaṇa; saḥ1 tena ṛṣi-saṅghena2 = in the assembly of sages; agastyaḥ = Agastya; vākyam = [the following] words; abravīt = spoke.

When Rāma, Sītā and Lakṣmaṇa sat down comfortably in the assembly of sages, Agastya spoke [the following] words.

1 Technical note: saḥ agastyaḥ

2 Technical note: There is no sandhi between tena and ṛṣi-saṅghena and agastyaḥ. Again, this is explainable by sā vivakṣām apekṣate.
