Chapter 12: Agastya Requests Rāma to Protect the Sages
Text 3.12.69
अयमिक्ष्वाकुपुत्रेण दण्डकेन महाबल।
देशो निराकृतो राजञ्शापदोषेण राघव॥
ayam ikṣvāku-putreṇa daṇḍakena mahā-bala
deśo nirākṛto rājañ śāpa-doṣeṇa rāghava
ayam = this; ikṣvāku-putreṇa = by Ikṣvāku’s son; daṇḍakena = Daṇḍaka; mahā-bala = greatly strong; deśaḥ = land; nirākṛtaḥ = was destroyed; rājan = O king; śāpa-doṣeṇa = through a curse [he received] due to his defect; rāghava = O Rāghava.
O greatly strong Rāghava, O king, this land was destroyed by Ikṣvāku’s son Daṇḍaka through a curse [he received] due to his defect.
