कालोऽयं गतभूयिष्ठो यः कालस्तव राघव।
समयो यो नरेन्द्रेण कृतो दशरथेन ते॥
तीर्णप्रतिज्ञः काकुत्स्थ सुखं राज्ये निवत्स्यसि।
धन्यस्ते जनको राम स राजा रघुनन्दन।
यस्त्वया ज्येष्ठपुत्रेण ययातिरिव तारितः॥
kālo ’yaṁ gata-bhūyiṣṭho yaḥ kālas tava rāghava
samayo yo narendreṇa kṛto daśarathena te
tīrṇa-pratijñaḥ kākutstha sukhaṁ rājye nivatsyasi
dhanyas te janako rāma sa rājā raghu-nandana
yas tvayā jyeṣṭha-putreṇa yayātir iva tāritaḥ
kālaḥ = time; ayam = the; gata-bhūyiṣṭhaḥ = is almost over; yaḥ kālaḥ = for which; tava = [given] to You; rāghava = Rāghava; samayaḥ = the agreement; yaḥ nara-indreṇa = King; kṛtaḥ = had made; daśarathena = Daśaratha; te = with You; tīrṇa-pratijñaḥ = having fulfilled Your promise; kākutstha = Kākutstha; sukham = happily; rājye = in Your kingdom; nivatsyasi = You will live; dhanyaḥ = is fortunate; te = Your; janakaḥ = father; rāma = Rāma; saḥ = that; rājā raghu-nandana = O beloved descendant of Raghu; yaḥ = king; tvayā = by You; jyeṣṭha-putreṇa = his eldest son; yayātiḥ = Yayāti; iva = like; tāritaḥ = has been delivered.
Rāghava, the time [given] to You for which the agreement King Daśaratha had made with You is almost over. Kākutstha Rāma, Having fulfilled Your promise, You will live happily in Your kingdom. Rāma, O beloved descendant of Raghu, Your father is fortunate. Like Yayāti, that king has been delivered by You, his eldest son.
Anticipating that Rāma might ask, “How did you know about Me carrying out the instructions of My father?” the sage speaks the next verse.
