Canto 3 -
Araṇya-kāṇḍa
Chapter 14: Śrī Rāma Meets Jaṭāyu
Text 3.14.5
रामस्य वचनं श्रुत्वा सर्वभूतसमुद्भवम्।
आचचक्षे द्विजस्तस्मै कुलमात्मानमेव च॥
rāmasya vacanaṁ śrutvā sarva-bhūta-samudbhavam
ācacakṣe dvijas tasmai kulam ātmānam eva ca
rāmasya = Rāma’s; vacanam = words; śrutvā = hearing; sarva-bhūta-samudbhavam = from which all creatures came about; ācacakṣe = described; dvijaḥ = the bird; tasmai = [told] Rāma; kulam = his lineage; ātmānam eva = about himself; ca = and.
Hearing Rāma’s words, the bird described his lineage from which all creatures came about and [told] Rāma about himself.
“About himself” means “his name.”
Desiring to speak about his birth, the vulture incidentally talks about the creation of all creatures from the next verse.
