Chapter 15: Lakṣmaṇa Constructs an Āśrama for Rāma in Pañcavaṭī
Text 3.15.14
सौवर्णै राजतैस्ताम्रैर्देशे देशे च धातुभिः।
गवाक्षिता इवाभान्ति गजाः परमभक्तिभिः॥
sauvarṇai rājatais tāmrair deśe deśe ca dhātubhiḥ
gavākṣitā ivābhānti gajāḥ parama-bhaktibhiḥ
sauvarṇaiḥ = the elephants resemble gold; rājataiḥ = silver; tāmraiḥ = copper; deśe deśe = from many places; ca = and; dhātubhiḥ = of minerals from the mountains 4; gavākṣitāḥ iva ābhānti = appear to form lattices; gajāḥ = the elephants; parama-bhaktibhiḥ = with excellent ornamental stripes.
The elephants appear to form lattices with excellent ornamental stripes of minerals from the mountains. The elephants resemble gold, copper and silver from many places.
Out of abundant happiness, Rāma describes the forest [by the mountains] from the next verse.
