Chapter 15: Lakṣmaṇa Constructs an Āśrama for Rāma in Pañcavaṭī
Text 3.15.18
इदं पुण्यमिदं मेध्यमिदं बहुमृगद्विजम्।
इह वत्स्यामि सौमित्रे सार्धमेतेन पक्षिणा॥
idaṁ puṇyam idaṁ medhyam idaṁ bahu-mṛga-dvijam
iha vatsyāmi saumitre sārdham etena pakṣiṇā
idam = this place; puṇyam = bestows piety; idam = this; medhyam = is pure; idam = this; bahu-mṛga-dvijam = is filled with many deer and birds; iha = here; vatsyāmi = I will reside; saumitre = Lakṣmaṇa; sārdham = with; etena pakṣiṇā = the bird Jaṭāyu who has come with us.
This place bestows piety. This is pure. This is filled with many deer and birds. Lakṣmaṇa, I will reside here with the bird Jaṭāyu who has come with us.
