Chapter 18: Śūrpaṇakhā Disfigured
Text 3.18.17
इत्युक्त्वा मृगशावाक्षीमलातसदृशेक्षणा।
अभ्यधावत्सुसङ्क्रुद्धा महोल्का रोहिणीमिव॥
ity uktvā mṛga-śāvākṣīm alāta-sadṛśekṣaṇā
abhyadhāvat susaṅkruddhā maholkā rohiṇīm iva
iti = this; uktvā = having said; mṛga-śāva-akṣīm = doe-eyed Sītā-devī; alāta-sadṛśa-īkṣaṇā = Śūrpaṇakhā whose eyes resembled a fire-brand; abhyadhāvat = rushed towards; susaṅkruddhā = in extreme fury; mahā-ulkā = a meteor; rohiṇīm = [rushing towards] Rohiṇī; iva = like.
Having said this, Śūrpaṇakhā, whose eyes resembled a fire-brand, rushed towards the doe-eyed Sītā-devī in extreme fury like a meteor [rushing towards] Rohiṇī.
[Through this example of a meteor rushing towards Rohiṇī] the author intends to convey that a period of disturbance would come about [in the future].
