Chapter 19: Khara Sends Fourteen Rākṣasas to Destroy Rāma
Text 3.19.9
निहतस्य मया सङ्ख्ये शरसङ्कृत्तमर्मणः।
सफेनं रुधिरं रक्तं मेदिनी कस्य पास्यति॥
nihatasya mayā saṅkhye śara-saṅkṛtta-marmaṇaḥ
saphenaṁ rudhiraṁ raktaṁ medinī kasya pāsyati
nihatasya = when he has been slain; mayā = by me; saṅkhye = in war; śara-saṅkṛtta-marmaṇaḥ = and his vitals have been cut to pieces by my arrows; saphenam = foamy; rudhiram = blood; raktam = red; medinī = the earth; kasya = whose; pāsyati = will drink.
Whose foamy red blood will the earth drink when he has been slain by me in war and his vitals have been cut to pieces by my arrows?
Foamy red blood refers to the blood that immediately flows out [of the body] when the life-airs depart.
