Chapter 20: Rāma Kills the Fourteen Rākṣasas
Text 3.20.5

वाक्यमेतत्ततः श्रुत्वा रामस्य विदितात्मनः।
तथेति लक्ष्मणो वाक्यं रामस्य प्रत्यपूजयत् ॥

vākyam etat tataḥ śrutvā rāmasya viditātmanaḥ
tatheti lakṣmaṇo vākyaṁ rāmasya pratyapūjayat

vākyam = words; etat = these; tataḥ śrutvā = upon hearing; rāmasya = of Rāma; vidita-ātmanaḥ = whose character was well-known; tathā = alright; iti = by saying; lakṣmaṇaḥ = Lakṣmaṇa; vākyam = instruction; rāmasya = Rāma’s; pratyapūjayat = honored.

Upon hearing these words of Rāma whose character was well-known, Lakṣmaṇa honored Rāma’s instruction by saying, “Alright!”1

Lakṣmaṇa honored Rāma’s instruction, that is, He carried out [His order].

1 Pratyapūjayat (“honored”) literally means “honored in return.” Lakṣmaṇa reciprocated by honoring Rāma’s instructions, that is, He obeyed Rāma.
