Chapter 21: Śūrpaṇakhā Impels Khara to Attack Rāma
Text 3.21.1
स पुनः पतितां दृष्ट्वा क्रोधाच्छूर्पणखां खरः।
उवाच व्यक्तया वाचा तामनर्थार्थमागताम्॥
sa punaḥ patitāṁ dṛṣṭvā krodhāc chūrpaṇakhāṁ kharaḥ
uvāca vyaktayā vācā tām anarthārtham āgatām
saḥ1 punaḥ = back; patitām = [and] fall [on the ground]; dṛṣṭvā = seeing; krodhāt = in anger; śūrpaṇakhām = Śūrpaṇakhā; kharaḥ = Khara; uvāca = spoke [as follows]; vyaktayā = in a distinct; vācā = voice; tām = to her; anartha-artham = because of the disaster; āgatām = come [to him].
Seeing Śūrpaṇakhā come back [to him and] fall [on the ground] in anger because of the disaster, Khara spoke to her in a distinct voice [as follows].
