Chapter 23: Khara Disregards Evil Omens on the Way
Text 3.23.8
बभूव तिमिरं घोरमुद्धतं रोमहर्षणम्।
दिशो वा विदिशो वापि न च व्यक्तं चकाशिरे॥
babhūva timiraṁ ghoram uddhataṁ roma-harṣaṇam
diśo vā vidiśo vāpi na ca vyaktaṁ cakāśire
babhūva = became; timiram = the darkness; ghoram = terrifying; uddhatam = thick; roma-harṣaṇam = and it could cause one’s hairs to bristle; diśaḥ vā = the directions; vidiśaḥ = the intermediate directions; vā api = nor; na ca = neither; vyaktam cakāśire = were visible [at that time].
The darkness became terrifyingly thick and it could cause one’s hairs to bristle. Neither the directions nor the intermediate directions were visible [at that time].
