Chapter 24: Lord Rāma Prepares to Fight With Khara’s Army
Text 3.24.10
रक्षसां नर्दतां घोरः श्रूयते च महाध्वनिः।
आहतानां च भेरीणां राक्षसैः क्रूरकर्मभिः॥
rakṣasāṁ nardatāṁ ghoraḥ śrūyate ca mahā-dhvaniḥ
āhatānāṁ ca bherīṇāṁ rākṣasaiḥ krūra-karmabhiḥ
rakṣasām = rākṣasas; nardatām = of the roaring; ghoraḥ = the fierce; śrūyate = is audible; ca = and; mahā-dhvaniḥ = great noise; āhatānām = beaten; ca = and; bherīṇām = the bherī drums; rākṣasaiḥ = by rākṣasas; krūra-karmabhiḥ = who engage in cruel activities.
The fierce and great noise of the roaring rākṣasas and the bherī drums beaten by rākṣasas who engage in cruel activities is audible.1
1 This is an indication that the rākṣasas were now preparing for war.
