Chapter 26: Rāmacandra Destroys Dūṣaṇa and his Followers
Text 3.26.8
हत्वा चाश्वाञ्शरैस्तीक्ष्णैरर्धचन्द्रेण सारथेः।
शिरो जहार तद्रक्षस्त्रिभिर्विव्याध वक्षसि॥
hatvā cāśvāñ śarais tīkṣṇair ardha-candreṇa sāratheḥ
śiro jahāra tad rakṣas tribhir vivyādha vakṣasi
hatvā ca = having killed; aśvān = the horses; śaraiḥ = arrows; tīkṣṇaiḥ = with sharp; ardha-candreṇa = with an arrow which had a head shaped like a half-moon; sāratheḥ = of Dūṣaṇa’s charioteer; śiraḥ = the head; jahāra = He cut off; tat = of that; rakṣaḥ = rākṣasa; tribhiḥ = with three [arrows]; vivyādha = He also pierced; vakṣasi = the chest .
Having killed the horses with sharp arrows, He cut off the head of Dūṣaṇa’s charioteer with an arrow which had a head shaped like a half-moon. He also pierced the chest of that rākṣasa with three [arrows].
