Chapter 27: Rāma Kills Triśirā
Text 3.27.16

ततो हतरथात्तस्मादुत्पतन्तं निशाचरम्।
बिभेद रामस्तं बाणैर्हृदये सोऽभवज्जडः॥

tato hata-rathāt tasmād utpatantaṁ niśācaram
bibheda rāmas taṁ bāṇair hṛdaye so ’bhavaj jaḍaḥ

tataḥ1 hata-rathāt = destroyed chariot; tasmāt = the; utpatantam = as Triśirā jumped off; niśācaram = night-ranger; bibheda = pierced; rāmaḥ = Rāmacandra; tam = that; bāṇaiḥ = with arrows; hṛdaye = in his chest; saḥ = [and] he; abhavat = became; jaḍaḥ = inert.

As Triśirā jumped off the destroyed chariot, Rāmacandra pierced that night-ranger with arrows in his chest [and] he became inert.

Triśirā’s chariot had been destroyed, that is, his horses and charioteer had been destroyed.
