Canto 3 -
Araṇya-kāṇḍa
Chapter 28: Śrī Rāma Attacks Khara
Text 3.28.8

तद्बभूव शितैर्बाणैः खररामविसर्जितैः।
पर्याकाशमनाकाशं सर्वतः शरसङ्कुलम्॥

tad babhūva śitair bāṇaiḥ khara-rāma-visarjitaiḥ
paryākāśam anākāśaṁ sarvataḥ śara-saṅkulam

tat = [indeed,] the sky; babhūva = became; śitaiḥ = sharp; bāṇaiḥ = arrows; khara-rāma-visarjitaiḥ = Khara and Rāma discharged; paryākāśam = the overhead sky; anākāśam = that fully filled up; sarvataḥ = entire; śara-saṅkulam = crowded with arrows.

Khara and Rāma discharged sharp arrows that fully filled up the overhead sky. [Indeed,] the entire sky became crowded with arrows!1

GLOSS. [The sky became] densely thick with those arrows just as it would be densely thick with water [in the form of clouds].

1 Rāmāyaṇa-bhūṣaṇa: paryākāśaṁ paritaḥ sthitam ākāśaṁ khara-rāmayoś catuḥ-pārśvavarty ākāśam ity arthaḥ.
